A Writing Challenge Worthy of Dr. Seuss

In a 2004 article for Dr. Seuss’ 100th birthday, BBC News published an article called “10 Facts about Dr. Seuss,” and my favorite fact was that Green Eggs and Ham was written because of a bet that Dr. Seuss could not write a book using only 50 words. I hope large quantities of money were involved in that bet because Dr. Seuss won big-time, and Green Eggs and Ham went on to become one of his best-selling books.

Dr. Seuss proved that it could be done (and done well), so that is my writing challenge for you. Write a full book using only 50 different words. Unlike a 50 word short story, the word count can be as high as you like (and should definitely be over 50) so long as you have a story arc and only use 50 separate words.

Are you up to the challenge?
